And He shall be for you a sanctuary, but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offense to both the houses of Israel, for a trap and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

And shall say, `Cast ye up, cast ye up, prepare the way; take up the stumbling block out of the way of My people.'"

And Simeon blessed them and said unto Mary His mother, "Behold, this Child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel, and for a sign which shall be spoken against

Why so? Because they sought it not by faith but, as it were, by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumbling stone.

As it is written: "Behold, I lay in Zion a stumbling stone and rock of offense, and whosoever believeth in Him shall not be ashamed."

but we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling block, and unto the Greeks foolishness,

to the one we are the savor of death unto death, and to the other the savor of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?

Unto you therefore who believe, He is precious; but unto those who are disobedient, "The stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,"

And in very deed, for this cause have I raised thee up: to show in thee My power, and that My name may be declared throughout all the earth.

What if God, choosing to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted for destruction;

For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ

And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you -- they whose judgment now for a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

For there are certain men who have crept in unawares, who were foreordained of old for this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.
