but a certain fearful expectation of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites: "Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?"

and great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines and pestilences. And fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

For our God is a consuming fire.

"Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces and there be none to deliver:

Thou, Thou alone, art to be feared; and who may stand in Thy sight when once Thou art angry?

Who knoweth the power of Thine anger? Even according to the fear of Thee, so is Thy wrath.

And fear not them that kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul; but rather fear Him that is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear Him that, after He hath killed, hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, fear Him!
