Knowest thou not this of old, since man was placed upon earth,

For since the beginning of the world men have not heard nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, besides thee, what He hath prepared for him that waiteth for Him.

As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets, who have been since the world began,

And there were voices and thunders and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as has not been since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake and so great.
