And those who passed by railed at Him, wagging their heads and saying, "Ah, thou that destroyest the temple and buildest it in three days,

Now it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that the LORD had commanded him to speak unto all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people took him, saying, "Thou shalt surely die!

Why hast thou prophesied in the name of the LORD, saying, `This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate without an inhabitant'?" And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the LORD.

"Micah the Morasthite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and spoke to all the people of Judah, saying, `Thus saith the LORD of hosts: "`Zion shall be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.'

but found none. Yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses,

and said, "This fellow said, `I am able to destroy the temple of God and to build it in three days.'"

and saying, "Thou that destroyest the temple and buildest it in three days, save thyself! If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross!"

Then the Jews answered and said unto Him, "What sign showest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?"

Then said the Jews, "Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou raise it up in three days?"

And they set up false witnesses who said, "This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place and the law;

for we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered to us."
