Again, I considered all travail and every right work for which a man is envied by his neighbor. This is also vanity and vexation of spirit.

But when His disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, "To what purpose is this waste?

For this ointment might have been sold for much and given to the poor."

Then one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son who was to betray Him, said,

"Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence and given to the poor?"

When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it, for He hath no pleasure in fools; pay that which thou hast vowed.

Let not thy mouth cause thy flesh to sin, neither say thou before God's angel that the vow was an error. Why should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thine hands?

If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter; for he that is higher than the highest regardeth, and there are higher than they.

"But ye have profaned it in that ye say, `The table of the LORD is polluted; and the fruit thereof, even His meat, is contemptible.'

Ye said also, `Behold, what a weariness is it!' And ye have sniffed it," saith the LORD of hosts. "And ye brought that which was torn and the lame and the sick; thus ye brought an offering! Should I accept this from your hand?" saith the LORD.
