Then Jacob said unto his household and to all that were with him, "Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean and change your garments.

And the LORD said unto Moses, "Go unto the people and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes

And he said unto the people, "Be ready against the third day. Come not at your wives."

Up, sanctify the people and say, `Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow, for thus saith the LORD God of Israel: There is an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel. Thou canst not stand before thine enemies until ye take away the accursed thing from among you.

And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD; and the LORD heard it, and His anger was kindled. And the fire of the LORD burned among them, and consumed those who were in the uttermost parts of the camp.

And the mixed multitude that was among them fell to lusting. And the children of Israel also wept again and said, "Who shall give us flesh to eat?

but our soul is dried away. There is nothing at all besides this manna before our eyes."

And the children of Israel said unto them, "Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the fleshpots and when we ate bread to the full! For ye have brought us forth into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger."

And it shall come to pass that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in, and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily."

and in the morning, then ye shall see the glory of the LORD, for He heareth your murmurings against the LORD. And what are we, that ye murmur against us?"

And the people came to the house of God, and remained there till evening before God, and lifted up their voices and wept sorely,

And the mixed multitude that was among them fell to lusting. And the children of Israel also wept again and said, "Who shall give us flesh to eat?

We remember the fish which we ate in Egypt freely, the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic;

And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron; and the whole congregation said unto them, "Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! Or would God we had died in this wilderness!

And why hath the LORD brought us unto this land to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? Were it not better for us to return into Egypt?"

to whom our fathers would not be obedient, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,
