Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Here the power of “binding” and “loosing” is committed to “the church” (see on ch. 18:17). And even here Heaven's ratification of the decision on earth will take place only if the decision is made in harmony with the principles of Heaven. All who deal with erring brethren should ever remember that they are dealing with the eternal destiny of souls, and that the results of their work may well be eternal -- Seventh-day Adventist Bible Commentary, [Matthew 18:18].
